History

The Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station was established in 1885. Congress passed the Hatch Act in 1887, establishing agricultural experiment stations at land-grant institutions in all the states and providing funds toward their support. 

A lot has taken place over the 130+ year history of the Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station. Below is a timeline that tracks many of the important events and discoveries that helped shape not only the Experiment Station but the University of Minnesota and even the state.
